Join the Colorado Destination ImagiNation  Race for the Cure Team!

The Susan B. Komen Walk for the Cure is October 4 in Denver.  We, as members of the Colorado Destination ImagiNation community, are all too aware that breast cancer strikes too often.  It has affected many members of our DI family.  I just celebrated my one year anniversary as a cancer survivor.  I know more than I ever wanted to know about this disease, its treatment and ultimately its cure.  What really stands out to me is how far research has come and what it makes possible in terms of diagnosis and treatment plans.  I have been lucky.  I was diagnosed early.  I had access to tests that allowed my team of doctors to accurately determined the scope and aggressiveness of my cancer and then determine MY treatment plan.  My surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and long term medication have all been tailored to give me what I need and nothing more.  I feel much more confident and hopeful knowing that I haven’t received a one size fits all approach.  Research up to this point has made that tailored approach and early detection possible.  But we have a long way to go.  This race is about continuing research and providing access to treatment for everyone.  That’s why we formed our team, Destination ImagiNation: ImagiN the Cure!  We are hoping for support from DIers from all over.  There are two ways you can join: become part of the team or make a donation.  Keep reading for details.

Become Part of the Team!

We would love to have you join us on Sunday, October 4th.

Most of us will be doing the Co-Ed 5K Walk Event at 8:00 a.m. However, if you’d prefer to run you can participate in the 7:00 a.m. Co-Ed 5K Run. If you’d like to make it a family affair at 9:00 a.m.there is a Family 1 Mile Fun Walk. For those less excited about early morning exercise you can “Sleep in for the Cure.”

Go to our team’s page and click on “Join Team” at the top of the list of team members. There is a $35 registration fee. Our goal is to have each team member raise $200. With support from the outside community our overall goal is to raise $3000.

Please help support the promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by stepping up and joining our team.

Make a Donation!

To make this successful we need your assistance. The 2008 Pledge Program raised over $1.4 million in pledges!  The goal for 2009 is to raise $1.8 million in pledges.

How Your Dollars Help …
Seventy-five percent (75%) of the money raised from the Race stays in the Komen Denver Affiliate’s 12 county service area for breast health education, breast cancer screening and treatment programs. The remaining twenty-five percent (25%) of the net income raised from the Race goes to fund national breast cancer research programs.

Our team goal is to raise more than $3000. We need your help!

Go to our team’s page and click on the upper right button marked “Support Destination ImagiNation: ImagiN the Cure” from there you can make an on-line credit card donation.
