Who are our Team Manager Bloggers, Scott and Susan
Scott and Susan Dalgleish have a passion for teaching kids creative thinking skills and feel Destination Imagination is a fantastic venue for this. This is Scott’s third and Susan’s second year as DI Team Managers.

They have three children: Sarah (14), Emily (11), and James (7) and live in Boulder, Colorado. Scott primarily coaches Sarah’s 8th-grade DI team in the Technical Challenge, while Susan coaches Emily’s 6th-grade team in the Fine Arts Challenge. They act as assistants on each other’s team, with Scott providing the technical expertise and Susan the performing and artistic skills. (James serves as mascot and playmate for both teams!) The 8th grade team has advanced to the Global Finals in 2010 and 2011. The 6th-graders made it to the State Tournament last year. It our goal this year for both teams to compete at Globals.

Scott has a degree in Electrical Engineering as well as an MBA. Scott is the COO at Phase IV Engineering where he manages the development of ultra-miniature wireless sensor systems.  Scott manages his DI team in a very similar manner to his engineering teams – and finds the DI coaching experiences full of insights on innovation management.

Susan has a B.A. in Romance Languages. She is a part-time web marketing consultant specializing in increasing web traffic for B2B high-tech companies.

Scott and Susan have a unique background in the area of creativity and problem-solving.  In 2005, Scott and Susan started Dragonfly Innovation, a company which developed unique art kits for kids. The kits were designed to nurture critical life skills such as ingenuity and resourcefulness while inspiring confidence and self-discovery. Scott and Susan spent several years researching and working with experts gain an understanding of how innovation and creativity skills could be taught to kids and parents.  In 2007, the Dragonfly Innovation art kits won many national toy awards including 6 “Dr. Toy” Awards and Creative Child Magazine’s “Toy of the Year”.

Although Dragonfly Innovation closed its doors in 2009, Scott and Susan’s dedication to the field remains.
They feel strongly that the ability to innovate and creatively solve problems is one of our nation’s greatest untapped resources – and a critical, under- taught skill.  Destination Imagination is now their primary venue for helping kids learn real-world innovation skills.
